Literacy Group & HSIE Activities

Literacy Groups Week 5
Choose one person to research from the list of Federation People below:

Briefly recount their contribution to Federation in your HSIE book.  Print out a picture in black and white to include if possible.

Use the links on our Australia as a Nation post, try Worldbook Online or try a Google search.

Literacy Groups Week 3
Watch the short YouTube describing major events in Australia's history.  Take notes of the dates and events and create a timeline in your HSIE book entitled Significant Events in Australia's History.

HSIE Week 3
In pairs, view the Federation timeline at Timetoast

Re-create the timeline in your HSIE book, entitled Federation Timeline,  listing the events in point form.

Choose one event to display on an information card.  Experiment with fonts, colour, page margins, and page boarders to create an clear, attractive and informative card.  See the Henry Parkes card as an example. Your card should be about half an A4 page in size. Save in your file on the O Drive for your teacher to print in colour.

Identify any technical language related to Federation that we may not know the meaning of.  Create a word bank definition card for our HSIE wall.  See the debate and premier word definition card as an example. You should use a large point size for your word cards. Print these out in black and white.
