Australian Identity

This term Year 6 will be learning about our Australian Identity in HSIE.

We will be defining what makes a 'typical' Australian, researching famous Australians and their contributions to our identity, and exploring signs and symbols as well as songs, poetry and art that have helped shape our ideas of our Australian identity.

The majority of our HSIE activities will be undertaken through a contract of choice activities that students can investigate at home and at school.

What makes a typical Australian?

Watch the following YouTube videos and consider the different cultures that contribute to our identity as Australians today:

A video project about Cultural diversity

Visit Face the Facts website to find statistics about multiculturalism in Australia today.

Make a poster to illustrate the real Australia in 2015, compared to the stereotypical view of the 'typical' Aussie.
